Succulent

Succulent plants have leaves or stems that are thickened, fleshy, and pretty stiff, designed to store water.  They include

Barrel Cactus (© NK)

Chaparral Yucca (KM)

Sierra Stonecrop (©

Canyon Dudlea (SSM)

Iodine Bush (SSM)

Ice Plant (©NK)

Common Purslane (KM)

California Boxthorn (KM)

If your plant reminds you of a succulent you have at home, then it’s a succulent.  However, if the leaves are merely thick, or leathery, or bend easily in your fingers, then they’re not succulent.
