Copy plant names from one guide to another.
Use this technique to copy plants from one or more guides
to another.
This article assumes you know your way around
PlantID.net. It uses Excel and Notepad
(or any other editor available on your computer) and assumes you know how to
copy and paste.
Build an import .txt
file
1.
Bring up the guide or
checklist you want to copy from. Do any
population searches you want to get the list you want.
2.
Click View in the
upper left corner and choose Filter Values
3.
In the filter value
title, click “Download to Excel”
4.
From the excel
spreadsheet, highlight and copy the data in the Scientific Name column.
5.
Open Notepad (or any
other editor available on your computer)
6.
Paste your plant
names in and save as a .txt file.
7.
Do the same with any
other guides or checklists you want to use, appending your names to your
original .txt file.
Import plant names into
a new or existing guide
1.
Create a new ID
guide, or open an existing one.
2.
Click the Import
Plant List button
3.
Point at your newly created
.txt file and select it – be careful, you can’t undo plant name imports.
4.
Your plants will be
added to your ID guide.
5.
Your new plants will
not bring over any custom ID descriptions or thumbnails from the source guide –
just the plant names.
