        Description
  • Height 1 - 3 ft.

  • Flowers are generally two-toned, pale purple and blue, with white or yellow insides.
  • Leaves are opposite and deciduous.
  • Found in damp grassy meadows, mostly in the Sierra foothills.

2 petals point up and 3 petals form the bottom of an opening trumpet shape. The yellow hairs are infertile stamens, and give us the name "Beardtongue"



Flowers form whorls around the stem. Note the penstemon shape, with a fat tube opening up into 5 petals.



Leaves are longer than wide, opposite, and are found on the bottom half of the stem. Flowers make whorls along the top half.
